Nemesis EXE Patch v1.0196 CDKB --------------------------- What's the patch do? -------------------- This is a replacement EXE file for those people who are having problems with Nemesis recognizing the CD that is inserted when changing discs. The common complaint was that Nemesis would say "Please insert CD number 5", the user inserts the disc, the drawer closes, Nemesis munches on the data for a while, then spits the disc back out, and asks for CD number 5 again, even though CD 5 -is- in the drive. The problem is that some CD drivers seem reluctant to update the volume label of the CD currently in the drive. Alot of the time, the volume label that the CD driver is reporting is actually the label of the last CD to be in the drive. This is obviously going to cause problems. This version of the patch has all the CD-ROM control code removed. What this means, is that Nemesis will not automatically eject the CD, even with that option enabled. When the prompt for another disk comes up on the screen, and you swap disks and hit a key, it will -immediately- check (using an alternative method to the volume name) the CD number, without waiting for the drive to spin up. This can cause the DOS error "Drive not ready: A)bort, R)etry, F)ail" message to come up if the drive is not at speed. You won't be able to see it, as the computer will be in a graphics mode. So, the following steps should be used to change CDs: 1) Do not remove the CD until the "Insert CD" panel is actually on screen. 2) Open the drive, change to the proper disk. 3) Close the drive, and watch for the CD rom activity light to come on and go off. This usually takes about 5-10 seconds. The drive should now be at speed. 4) Hit enter on the keyboard, or click the mouse. If at this point, the CD icon comes up, the drive may or may not show some access, and nothing happens for 20-30 seconds, the drive probably wasn't quite ready, and you've gotten an A)bort, R)etry etc. message. Hit your "R" key to retry the access. Save your game before changing disks, just in case. When the system asks you if you want to enter an area involving a CD change, you can always answer "No", save the game, then repeat the action and go on. What do I do with it? --------------------- Simply copy the NEM.EXE from the ZIP file over the NEM.EXE in the directory you installed Nemesis to. You might want to copy the original NEM.EXE to another name before doing this, just in case the patch doesn't fix your problem. If it doesn't fix my problem? ----------------------------- If you're still experiencing difficulty, contact our technical support people.
